Newcastle is a major metropolitan area located roughly two hours from Sydney. Situated on the mouth of the Hunter River, it is the commercial hub for the Greater Newcastle area and Hunter Region. While Newcastle itself is not a major tourist destination, it has some beautiful beaches and acts as a commercial hub for large parts of NSW. The nearby Hunter Region is known for its food and wine, and it also has lots of spectacular national parks. If you want long term car rentals or one way car hire, we offer 4WD hire in Newcastle, mini van hire in Newcastle, and so much more.
At Avis, we support the Newcastle community with an impressive commercial fleet. Newcastle is famous for its coal, and it features the largest coal-exporting harbour in the entire world. Beyond the city, the Hunter Region is full of productive farmland and primary resources, including some of the biggest mines in the country. Whether you're visiting the wine region on holiday or heading to the countryside for work, Avis has the perfect vehicle for your needs.
Newcastle has a warm subtropical climate, with humid summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from 18-26 degrees in the summer, and 8-20 degrees in the winter. The temperature never drops below freezing, although strong winds can make temperatures seem colder in the winter.
